Throughout this century, the idea of what is considered a successful career has changed. For decades, young adults have been given the same roadmap to the American Dream: get good grades, graduate high school, and attend a good college to work towards a bachelor’s degree. All in an effort to land a white-collar job in a corner office.
But what if you wanted a unique roadmap to your own American dream?
As veterans and spouses, we chose to take a path to serve a purpose greater than ourselves, and our extraordinary experiences along that path have prepared us for an extraordinary opportunity. The strength, integrity, courage, and resilience developed and refined while in service to our country are attributes that easily translate into a rewarding career in one of the skilled trades.
There are currently 500,000 job openings in the skilled trades industry, and that number is projected to increase to three million by 2028. Therefore, WD-40 Company has teamed up with AMVETS to assist in combating the astonishing number of vacancies in these industries.
Vocational training can lead to fulfilling jobs with competitive pay in a fraction of the time and cost of a traditional four-year university.
Through this partnership, AMVETS aims to fulfill WD-40 Company’s vision.
WD-40 Company is on a mission to change people’s lives. This program aims to show participants that they can enjoy what they do, buy a house, take vacations, and still support a family. Our participants should understand that “Work doesn’t have to be a grind and that their benefits go way beyond healthcare and 401k. The goal is to give them hope, happiness, and the satisfaction of a job well done.”
Just as our veterans have protected and sacrificed for this country, the skilled trades have built and sustained this country. Merging these two American pillars is mission-critical.
With the support of WD-40 Company, AMVETS is offering scholarships of up to $5,000 to those who are enrolled in an eligible program. Applications for the Veteran Scholarship Program will be accepted August 1st through October 15th, 2024.
